The willingness of the people of the American Red Cross to accept the challenges confronting a fast changing society has brought about an explosion of services from disaster relief to blood services, from first aid programs to swimming lessons to assistance programs for the elderly to HIV/AIDS education. As an organization we are always prepared, yet constantly seeking innovative ways to meet the changing needs of our communities.
Built upon the unwavering spirit of the American people, the American Red Cross has always been there to help people help themselves. Long after the emergency workers and television cameras leave a disaster site, Red Cross workers remain behind the scenes to help people rebuild their lives.
In the wake of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, our neighbors and friends raised and sent $126,434 in direct financial aid to individuals and communities devastated by these storms.
The Floods of June and July 2007 destroyed homes, farm and ranch land in Nowata and Washington Counties. To date the community has raised over $ 40,000 for our own people.
Those whose lives you've touched could not thank you enough.
"The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, will provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies."
